Herewith, the Haps: News for April '25

Spring finds me a little scattered, because I’m trying to move heavily into art carving while still doing the stuff I’ve been doing, woodenware and small furniture. Figuring out new displays, new venues, new work strategies, and (though I swore I wouldn’t) a new brand and logo.

After spending January and February drawing and carving—some I’m really happy with; you can see it in my previous posts here—I spent most of March stockpiling woodenware for the spring. Just flat stuff for now: spatulas, spreaders, rice paddles. Spoons later if I have time. I may make another carved box, but we’ll see.

I’ll be at four markets this month.

First, I’ve been accepted as a member of the Durham Craft Market and will make my first appearance there this Saturday, April 12, 8-noon. Exciting stuff! (That’s 🤩 in internet-speak.) If you arrive early, you can watch me trying to figure out my new mesh-panel display system for the carvings. First ten customers get to politely examine wooden spatulas while I apologize for running behind. Next ten customers can take turns trying out one of my stools while they wait. Seriously, I have to get up at five in the morning for this, so if you’re around, do drop by and tell me how great everything looks.

In two weeks, I’ll be at the first Sunset Social at The Bend in Raleigh, which is a new Trophy Brewing venture. Thursday evening the 24th, 4-8pm, so I don’t have to get up at five in the morning. Why not come out anyway, drink things and buy some art? But not too many things, or you won’t have money left for the art.

In between, two old stand-bys: the Pittsboro Farmers Market on Thursday the 17th, 3-6pm, and Popup Raleigh at Trophy on Maywood Ave. Saturday the 19th, noon-5. Mostly woodenware at PBO, mostly art at PR.

Finally, I’m working on getting some carvings up for sale on the website. If there’s something you’re interested in or want me to bring to a market, get in touch.
